Gala on the Green - 2008
Discovery Green sparkled at its inaugural Gala on the Green presented by Shell Oil Company on Saturday, February 23, 2008. Co-chairs Franci and Jim Crane, Nancy and Rich Kinder and Eileen and Kase Lawal hosted some 1,200 guests at the elegant black-tie evening on the park grounds.
Guests strolled down a red carpet to dinner while violinists played under the magnificent live oaks along the Brown Promenade which was illuminated in green light and accented with chandeliers elegantly draped from the branches.
The magnificent tent from Aztec Tents & Events was transformed by the masterful design skills of The Events Company. Guests then dined on the appetizing menu organized by Schiller Del Grande chef's Robert Del Grande and The Grove's Ryan Pera.
Houston Mayor Bill and Andrea White were honored and presented with the Andrea and Bill White Promenade in recognition of their vision and dedication to Discovery Green. The amazing talents of Sha'on & Success, a New Orleans based group who evacuated to Houston temporarily post-Katrina, delighted gala attendees. Adding some sizzle to the night was Houston's own Archie Bell.
The event was executed flawlessly by Ward & Ames Special Events.

Event Sponsorship
Discovery Green has had the tremendous support of the Houston community not only during development, but through the months as the park opens to the public. Tribute Giving
A memorial offers a special opportunity to remember a deceased family member, friend or acquaintance with a donation to Discovery Green.
A tribute honors a friend or family member who is celebrating a special occasion, such as a birthday, wedding, graduation, or professional accomplishment, by making a gift to Discovery Green.
When you make a memorial or tribute gift, the person you designate is sent a personalized letter acknowledging your generosity, although the amount of the gift is not shown. You also will receive a gift acknowledgment.
